We’re going mano-a-Blakeo this week as your valiant host flies solo. But that doesn’t mean we’re bereft of content! This week Blake gives his thoughts on the new-to-DVD films Kick-Ass and The Losers, talks about a couple of recent events from Wizard World Chicago and the Green Lantern movie, and answers your e-mails! In the picks, Blake doubles up with the surprisingly awesome Life With Archie: The Married Life #1 and the not-at-all-surprisingly awesome Darkwing Duck #3.
At the Movies Episode 19: Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World
Episode 183: Doctor Who Postseason Report
The Showcase crew’s favorite TV show about a madman in a magic box has wrapped up its latest season, so this week they guys sit down and talk about Matt Smith‘s first 13 episodes as Doctor Who. The guys discuss the second half of the season, the questions left over at the end of the run, and toss about their theories as to the true identity of the mysterious River Song. In the picks this week, Blake applauds Roger Langridge‘s return to the art chores of The Muppet Show, Mike finds himself enjoying Time Masters: Vanishing Point #1 and Kenny branches out with Thor #611.
Episode 182: A Conversation About Animation
The Showcase Crew assembles again, as the boys sit down and talk about some of their favorite all-time animated feature films. Blake and Kenny each present a top ten list, and Mike and Daniel join in with some of their favorites as well. In this week’s picks, Kenny goes with Booster Gold #34, Blake dug Justice League: Generation Lost #6, Mike gives us a blast from the past with the Flashpoint miniseries, and Daniel’s all about the new season of Futurama.
Episode 181: Inception, Under the Red Hood, and Ranting!
Finishing up a summertime holiday, Blake and Erin sit down and give their thoughts on Christopher Nolan‘s Inception and the new DC Universe animated movie Batman: Under the Red Hood. They cover some leftover news from Comicon, then answer your e-mails! In the picks, Erin is reading Mary Roach‘s Bonk, and Blake picks Penny Arcade Vol. 6: The Halls Below.
Episode 180: San Diego 2010
Erin is back this week, joining Blake to talk about the news from Comic-Con 2010! In the news we’ve got the Avengers cast, the Chew TV show, the Young Justice cartoon, new Avengers, changes to the Batman family, the return of the Mickey Mouse comic strip, new announcements about a dozen different comics and creators, and more! In the picks, Erin recommends the book Stiff, and Blake loved the second issue of Darkwing Duck.
Episode 179: Movies, E-Mail, and Somethin’ For the Kids
Blake doesn’t quite fly solo this week. Heather joins him for a quick review of the film Despicable Me, and then Blake jumps into your-mails! We also spend a little time talking about the late Harvey Pekar and the much happier news of the Tiny Titans/Little Archie crossover. Then, it’s time for a blast from the past! To make up for losing Chase’s chatter last week, Blake pulls the second episode from the short-lived 2 in 1 Showcase at the Movies podcast (the separate one, not the movie review mini-episodes we do now) and presents it in the main feed for the first time! So after the current content, sit back and listen as Chase and Blake talk over one of their favorite films, Ghostbusters!
Episode 178: Predator(s)
Blake sat down this week with a great conversation with Mike “Techno-Dunce” Bellamy and your good buddy Chase Bouzigard about the Predator franchise — four movies, comics, video games, and all that! Unfortunately, that program seems to be lost due to some sort of technical malfunction that has spent all day making Blake want to kick puppies in frustration. So instead, listen as a deeply apologetic Blake gives you his review of the new Predators film, along with this week’s picks — Chase enjoyed the new novel by Whitley Strieber, The Omega Point (probably), Blake was big on Avengers: The Children’s Crusade #1 and Mike dug Action Comics #890.
Episode 177: Independence Day Rundown
Blake goes it alone with a quick episode for this Independence Day weekend. You get his quick thoughts on Wonder Woman’s new costume, the new movie Spider-Man, the creation of Marvel TV, and a review of Scott Sigler‘s Infected, plus the pick of the week: Ghostbusters: Con-Volutions. Plus, Kenny chimes in via e-mail to give his thoughts on the film The Last Airbender. But that’s not all! Blake’s been busy lately, and this week he clues you guys in about his recent appearance on the Castle Rock Podcast, his new short story appearing in Flagship magazine from Flying Island Press, and tells you guys how to listen to the audio edition of his novel Other People’s Heroes absolutely free. It’s the Showcase age of shameless plugs!
Episode 176: The Heroic Age, Jonah Hex, and Superhero Shorts
The Showcase gang sits down at a bookstore after an eventful day for a chat on recent comic events. The guys discuss the proposed Marvel short films, the DC animated shorts, several recent Heroic Age comics, the wreck that was the Jonah Hex movie, and much more! In the picks, Mike is re-reading Fables Vol. 4 (and using the books to draw in a new comic book reader), Kenny picks Secret Avengers #1 and Blake loved Supergirl #53.
