It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Carolers are singing, gifts are being wrapped, and there’s a new Star Wars movie in theaters! This week, Blake, Erin and Jason take a look at the first standalone movie in the franchise, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
And what’s cool this week? Jason has enjoyed the first season of Designated Survivor, while Blake was charmed by the DC Rebirth Holiday Special.
This weekend was the cultural event of the century, the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. To prepare for it, Blake and Erin spent a week watching and reviewing the first six Star Wars movies one-by-one, before finally finishing up with a massive spoiler-rich analysis of The Force Awakens. (Don’t worry, the spoilers don’t come until after they’ve discussed the other six movies.) In this extra-sized episode, they talk about everything they love — and hate — about the seven movies of the Star Wars saga.
And what’s cool this week? While Erin is still too enraptured by Star Wars to think of another recommendation, Blake is there to talk about the first half-season of CBS’s Supergirl and the first issue of IDW’s Mickey and Donald Christmas Parade.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The lights are glowing, the chestnuts are roasting, and the demonic spirit of vengeance has arrived to wreak destruction upon those who don’t respect the spirit of the season. This week, Blake and Erin take a look at writer/director Michael Dougherty’s new yuletide horror movie Krampus. Is it a worthy addition to the canon of Christmas terror? How does it stack up to Dougherty’s new Halloween classic Trick ‘r Treat? And who the heck was King Wenceslas anyway? The answers to at least some of those questions lie in this week’s episode!
And what’s cool this week? Blake liked the first issue of 451 Entertainment’s new comic book Humbug, while Erin supports the abstract concept of courtesy. No, really.
It’s time to start your Christmas shopping, and this week, Blake is here to give you guys a few tips. How do you shop for a geek? Where do you look? And what kind of cool goodies are out there this year?
And what’s cool this week? Blake is enjoying the hell out of DC’s LEGO variant covers, and from a story standpoint, is surprisingly into Spider-Verse.
The Tolkiening of America continues this week as the Showcase guys take in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. In a (mostly) spoiler-free discussion, the guys talk about how the movie diverges from the book, how they feel about the additions to the original story, and their overall feelings about the film.
And what’s cool this week? Jason has been watching Gypsy Sisters, Kenny got a new toy from Japan, and Blake is doing his annual re-read of The Autobiography of Santa Claus by Jeff Guinn.
It’s time once again for the Showcase gang to sit down and indulge in some holiday hijnks! This year’s Christmas marathon brings the boys face-to-face with some of the lousiest Christmas specials ever made, including several suggestions by you! Listen in as the guys tackle Christmas in PacLand, The Smurfs Christmas Special, He-Man and She-Ra: A Christmas Special, Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer, The Alpha-Bots Christmas, and the granddaddy of them all, The Star Wars Holiday Special! Not gonna lie, guys, we needed the RiffTrax crew to get us through that one.
And what’s cool this week? Blake is still jazzed about the new Astro City, and talks about the new storyline that kicked off with issue #7.
