The first ever Louisiana Comic-Con was held this weekend, and Blake and Kenny took the trek to Lafayette to check it out. Blake gives his impressions on the new convention, and discusses the gang’s new game: Cosplay Bingo!
And what’s cool this week? It’s a triple pick, with Superman: Lois and Clark #1, Plutona #2, and Paper Girls #1.
The convention tour has started again, and this week the Showcase gang walks the floor of Wizard World New Orleans 2015. Blake, Erin, Mike and Kenny talk about some of their finds, the challenge of collectible-diving, and ask the true burning question: are we reaching a saturation point for comic book conventions?
And what’s cool this week? Mike is making his way through Dexter and Batman: Zero Year, Kenny is a fan of Gotham, Erin reading Tale of the Body Thief and watching Breaking Bad, and Blake had fun with Ant-Man #1.
It’s the 300th episode of the Showcase, and Wizard World decided to celebrate by throwing a convention! Or maybe it’s a coincidence, who can tell? At any rate, the guys spend the weekend at the convention and chat about cosplay, the autograph-prolific antics of Matt Smith, the fact that Attack on Titan is apparently a thing now, and Blake faces the reality that the next time he goes to a convention he’ll be with his (GASP!) wife!
And what’s cool this week? Kenny doubles up on the card game Fate/Zero and the TV show Almost Human, and Blake’s into The Fox #4 and J.C. Hutchins’s The 33.
It’s the second Wizard World New Orleans convention for 2012! Why? Blake and Kenny try to solve the mystery. The boys also talk convention shopping, cosplaying, Star Trek panel mayhem and close encounters in the Men’s Room. In the picks, Blake is reasonably impressed with Indestructible Hulk #1. For the second year, Wizard World has come to New Orleans, and the Showcase boys are on the floor. The guys talk costumes, autographs, and convention etiquette, and Blake hits the floor to talk to some of the creators in attendance! Writer John Layman talks about the hit book Chew and his upcoming work on Mars Attacks, arist Joe Eisma gives a tease about Morning Glories, artist Nick Pittara talks about creating The Red Wing and the upcoming Manhattan Project, and writer Brandon Seifert tells us what Witch Doctor has to look forward to in 2012! It’s time for the final episode of our Nola Comic-Con coverage! This week, Blake sits down with a slew of webcomics creators, including Kevin Johnson of Strange City Heroes, Monty and the Mongoose of Flying Zombies, Agnes Garbowska of You, Me, and Zombie and others, Matthew Rainwater and Austin Price of Garage Raja, and Jessie W. Craig of Sweet Dreams Are Made of Worms. The panel discusses creating their own comics, working with the new digital media, and more! In the picks this week, Blake goes with Flashpoint: Deadman and the Flying Graysons #1. Contact us with comments, suggestions, or anything else at Showcase@CXPulp.com!
This week, we’re back to the panel room of the Nola Comic-Con, where Blake moderates a chat with several Louisiana-area comic creators about a variety of topics, including working away from the coasts, self-publishing, copyright, and digital comics. Panelists include Tim Lattie of White Picket Fences, Tedd Walley of Mathilda, R.J. Clark of The Rift, Vernon Smith of The Adventures of Dexter Breakfast, Kurt Amacker of Immortal 60, Kody Chamberlain of Sweets, Rob Guillory of Chew, Robby Musso of TransFormers and the super-mercenary artist Derec Donovan! Warning: This episode does include some explict language. In the picks this week, Blake loved Love and Capes: Ever After #5.
