It’s Halloween once again, and the Showcase crew assembles for their (mostly) annual monster movie marathon. This year the gang tackles the six films that make up the legacy of the king of the vampires: Dracula, Dracula’s Daughter, Son of Dracula, House of Frankenstein, House of Dracula, and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein.
And what’s cool this week? Erin continues Diana Rowland‘s series with Even White Trash Zombies Get the Blues, Jason has been scouring the History Channel, and Blake recommends Arkham Manor #1.
With Halloween so close, Blake and Erin discuss the greatest movie monsters of all time. Our picks, your choices, and the number one monster in cinema history wait for you in this week’s episode! In the picks, Erin loves The Walking Dead Compendium Vol. 2 and Blake goes with Locke and Key: Grindhouse and Marvel Zombies Halloween. Don’t forget to vote for this year’s Halloween movie marathon at the Fighting Fitness Fraternity Facebook Page! Contact us with comments, suggestions, or anything else at Showcase@CXPulp.com!
It’s time for the official Showcase Halloween episode! This year, Blake and Erin get together to talk about horror movies… their favorites, the earliest ones they’ve seen, movies they hate, the icons that make horror what it is today, and those characters that could potentially join the ranks of Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees in the future. In the picks, Blake gives us a New 52 Pick, Superman #2 and a Halloween pick, Casper’s Scare School #1! Contact us with comments, suggestions, or anything else at Showcase@CXPulp.com!
Blake and Erin chat this week about the new footage from Wondercon of the Green Lantern movie! Then, Blake reviews the new movie Limitless, Erin reviews Bomb Queen Vol. 1, and they talk about the rest of the Wondercon News — Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, DC’s Retro-Active specials, the Artist’s Edition of Walter Simonson‘s Thor, and much more! In the picks, Blake loved the Jimmy Olsen one-shot, and Erin is enjoying John Dies at the End. Plus: more information about Blake’s new eBook! The New York Comic Con was this weekend, and the Showcase boys spent an hour talking about all the big announcements! Or… at least, the announcements that had been made by the time they recorded this episode? But there’s plenty here, including the big DC and Marvel price drop announcement, future plans for X-Men, Captain America, Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes, Iron Man and X-Men cartoons, green Lantern and Superman movie news, the comic book returns of Richie Rich and Godzilla, IDW’s daring Infestation crossover, and more! In the picks, Kenny chooses Next Gen Wars #1 and Blake was into Brightest Day #11. Contact us with comments, suggestions, or anything else at Showcase@CXPulp!
It’s a quick episode as Blake and Kenny roam the DVD shelf of their local department store. We talk about the Blu-Ray vs. DVD controversy, digital copies, digital comics, early plans for Halloween, and lots of movies. In the picks this week, Kenny thinks you should sit down with your kids and watch a Studio Ghibli film, and Blake wants you to read Batgirl #14.
Blake doesn’t quite fly solo this week. Heather joins him for a quick review of the film Despicable Me, and then Blake jumps into your-mails! We also spend a little time talking about the late Harvey Pekar and the much happier news of the Tiny Titans/Little Archie crossover. Then, it’s time for a blast from the past! To make up for losing Chase’s chatter last week, Blake pulls the second episode from the short-lived 2 in 1 Showcase at the Movies podcast (the separate one, not the movie review mini-episodes we do now) and presents it in the main feed for the first time! So after the current content, sit back and listen as Chase and Blake talk over one of their favorite films, Ghostbusters!
The guys get together for a news roundup this week. We spend time talking about the Captain America, Thor, Spider-Man and Green Lantern movies, The Walking Dead and Thundercats on TV, the new Teen Titans writer, Joe Quesada‘s promotion, the Invincible Iron Man Annual simultaneous release kerfuffle, the DC Universe Online release date, Vertigo characters returning to the DC Universe and more! In the picks, Mike hasn’t gotten any comics, so Blake and Kenny each double up — Adventure Comics #12, The Muppet Show #6, Superman/Batman Annual #4 and The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger-The Journey Begins #1!
The Halloween Spooktacular continues with a special guest-host. Blake recruits his sister, Heather, to sit down with him and look at some of the greatest horror artists of all time. The sibs go from the classic works of Al Feldstein in Tales From the Crypt, the great Marvel Horror artists of the 70s, superstars of Vertigo comics, some of today’s bright spots — with several surprises along the way. You may want to camp at the Grand Comic Book Database to play along with this one. In the picks, Blake loves the Perhapanauts Halloween Spooktacular! (Special thanks to Jacob Bascle for the Spooktacular Album Art we’ll be sporting all month!)
As we roll into October, the Halloween Spooktacular is again upon us! The Showcase is undergoing some big changes this week, but Blake and Kenny sit down to talk about the immortal lord of the night, Count Dracula, from his classic movies, the legendary Tomb of Dracula comic, and his appearances in the DC Multiverse and elsewhere. The guys also talk about the rest of the Count’s vampire bretheren, some great vampire novels and comics from recent years, and desperately look for a way to save the Noble Nosferatu from being Twilight-ized. In the picks this week, Kenny goes with Blackest Night #3, and Blake takes the upcoming prose book Peter and Max: A Fables Novel. (Special thanks to Jacob Bascle for the Spooktacular Album Art we’ll be sporting all month!)
