The first weekend of the year brings with it the first convention of the year: Wizard World New Orleans! Blake, Erin, and Kenny stop in to this year’s convention and talk about the panels, the shopping, the meteoric rise of Pop Vinyls and Mystery Boxes, and the cosplay that seems to have overtaken even Harley Quinn and Deadpool… 2017 is the Year of Negan.
And what’s cool this week? Blake loved Superman #14, Kenny is a fan of the world’s most annoying video game, and Erin just wants some King Cake.
It’s time for another Your Turn to Pick! This week, in memory of the late Wes Craven, Blake chooses his 1982 DC Comics movie Swamp Thing. We talk about the movie, Blake suffers a tragic misunderstanding about the nature of two of the characters, and then we discuss Craven’s legacy as a filmmaker and which Nightmare on Elm Street movie is actually best.
And what’s cool this week? Erin is in love with Ms. Marvel, while Blake dug the finale of Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars and has found a new reason to anticipate the upcoming Superman: Lois and Clark.

My parents didn’t watch them and didn’t let me watch them either, which was probably for the best, as I was a child with a terribly overactive imagination and a recurring nightmare involving Sweetums from the Muppets. When a friend of mine finally got me to start watching horror movies with him in college, he didn’t start me off with a classic Universal monster, or the demons of The Exorcist, or even the slashers of our 80s childhood. It’s time for the official Showcase Halloween episode! This year, Blake and Erin get together to talk about horror movies… their favorites, the earliest ones they’ve seen, movies they hate, the icons that make horror what it is today, and those characters that could potentially join the ranks of Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees in the future. In the picks, Blake gives us a New 52 Pick, Superman #2 and a Halloween pick, Casper’s Scare School #1! Contact us with comments, suggestions, or anything else at Showcase@CXPulp.com!
Blake and Erin get on the microphone together for another of their epic visits together. The two of them discuss their adventures seeking out new comic book stores, how Blake was worried about defending the honor of the New Orleans Saints in the midst of Steeler nation, the glory of Bacon Night, and what they thought of the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. In the picks, Erin digs Power Girl: A New Beginning, and Blake was a fan of Young Allies #1.
With the summer movie season approaching (and the next several weeks of the podcast spoken for), Blake and Heather take this week to give a rundown of all the big films coming in the next few months, starting with this week’s Clash of the Titans and rolling on to the end of August! In the picks, Blake double-dips with The Guild #1 and Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam! #14.
It’s the second annual 2 in 1 Showcase Halloween Spooktacular! In this oversized episode, the boys talk about their favorite slashers, both in the movies and in comics.
