Episode 123: Spotlight on Walt Simonson

It’s time for another creator spotlight, and this week the Showcase boys are turning their attention to legendary writer/artist Walter Simonson. From his early work on Star Slammers to defining runs on Thor and Fantastic Four, up through great work with Orion and his current work at Wildstorm, the guys look at his career and talk about their favorite Walt Simonson comics. In the picks this week, Mike chooses Justice Society of America #27, Blake goes Greek with Incredible Hercules #129, and Chase selects the Flash Gordon 75th Anniversary Special. Episode 122: Battle For the Cowl and the NEW Batman Family

Batman 686Back in Episode 106, when Battle For the Cowl was yet to begin, the Showcase boys looked at the possible candidates for the Batman mantle and the state of the Batman family as a whole. Episode 121: The Infinity Gauntlet

Infinity Gauntlet 1We’re getting into another classic comic discussion, friends, this week looking at perhaps the greatest Marvel crossover of all time: The Infinity Gauntlet. The boys look at the roots of Thanos’s story, through the epic series and its crossovers, and at the books that spun out after the series was over. Was this a crossover so good that it ruined crossovers for us since then? In the picks this week, Chase picks Planet Skaar Prologue, Blake loved Wonder Woman #32, and Mike was into Brave and the Bold #23. This week’s graphic novel: Silver Surfer: The Rebirth of Thanos.

Episode 120: The Terminator

TerminatorThe movie season is in high gear now, and this week’s big release is Terminator: Salvation. To prepare for the movie, the Showcase gang converged on the home of Mike “I Left My Heart in 2029” Bellamy for a marathon of the first three Terminator movies and the pilot episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The boys talk about the films and show, discuss the property in comics, and pre-hash the new movie. Come back on Tuesday for our review of Terminator: Salvation! In the picks this week, Blake enjoyed the first issue of Olympus and Chase provides the graphic novel pick, Hellblazer: Original Sins.
