Episode 99: 2008-The Year in Review

2008 ends in just days, folks, so let’s go out with a Showcase blowout! Joined by back-up geeks Mike and Kenny, the boys announce the winners of the Best of 2008 awards, as voted on by you! Then, it’s a long talk about everything that happened in comics in 2008! The Dark Knight, the rise of Marvel Studios, Diamond refuses to distribute Hack/Slash, Archie goes back to ninth grade, and a heck of a lot more. This double-sized episode is the longest Showcase ever (we promise we won’t make a habit of it)! And instead of our usual picks of the week, stay tuned as our four guys pick their favorite comic books of the entire year! Next week will be the 100th Episode Spectacular! Episode 98: Christmas Hooplah!

It’s only a few days until Christmas, folks. Before you hang up your stockings and put out cookies for Santa, have a seat with Blake and Chase as they talk about the holiday-themed comics that came out this year, as well as some of their favorite Christmas movies and TV specials. Chase regales us with the heartwarming story of how the Showcase crew saw Love, Actually together, the guys debate the merits of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, and everybody huddles around the virtual fire to talk about what we want for Christmas. In the picks this week, Blake cheers the greatest Junior Woodchucks Story Ever Told in Uncle Scrooge #383, and Chase cheers the return of the X-Men to the rest of the Marvel Universe in Uncanny X-Men #505.

Episode 91: Hawkman and the Atom

Atom and Hawkman 39They once shared a title — why not share a Showcase episode? People have often asked the guys to discuss two of DC‘s classic heroes, Hawkman and The Atom, so this week the boys tackle the legendary duo. The histories of the characters, their favorite stories, and where they are today… well, you know the drill. In the picks this week, Blake throws his support behind volume three of Gemstone‘s excellent Barks/Rosa Collection series of Disney comics, and Chase likes the zero issue of IDW‘s new G.I. Joe line!

Once again, the boys come at us with a special Showcase Tangent, in which any and all topics are up for grabs! The guys start by picking apart all of the news that’s come from this year’s San Diego Comicon so far! Mark Waid writing The Incredibles? Disney is making a Tron 2? Johns, Robinson and Gates on Superman: New Krypton? Will Blake ever see sunlight again after DC Universe Online is released? Plus, even more thoughts on The Dark Knight, Chase reviews The X-Files: I Want to Believe, and the guys make a BIG announcement about the next Showcase special project! Then, there’s plenty of time to answer your e-mails! Chase doesn’t have a pick this week, but Blake tells you about the coolness of Archie #587.

Episode 77: The Joker and the Dark Knight

Batman 11One of the most feverishly-anticipated films of the summer hits next week, so this week Blake and Chase give their thoughts on the Batman‘s greatest enemy, the Joker! The guys dissect what makes the Clown Prince of Crime such a great character, talk about their favorite Joker stories, and talk about what they’re hoping for out of Heath Ledger and The Dark Knight. Also, Chase puts out a call to action — visit Kungaloosh Forever to help save Disney’s Adventurer’s Club! In the picks, Blake‘s girlfriend Erin turns him on to Love and Capes, while Chase is still full of love for Action Comics #867.

From their origins at Dell in the 1940s, up to today’s books from Gemstone and Slave Labor Graphics, the guys talk about the history of Disney in comics, some of their favorite stories, what they’re doing right, and what they could be doing better — and their findings just may surprise you. In the picks this week, Chase gives his props to The Walking Dead #44, while Blake has a big belly laugh with… World War Hulk: Aftersmash? We told you guys — this episode isn’t what you’d expect.

Blake recalls his favorite titles, Chase ponders the cartoon show, and the guys talk about the “new look” of Betty and Veronica, the AWOL Archie superheroes, Sonic the Hedgehog and everything else Archie! This week’s picks stay with the family-friendly theme, with Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man and Uncle Scrooge, plus a bonus discussion on various Disney projects.
