At the Movies Episode 46: Double Feature! Mad Max: Fury Road and Tomorrowland

This Memorial Day weekend, Blake and Erin take in a double feature of sci-fi movies that couldn’t be more different. The reboot/sequel/whatever of the Max Max franchise, Mad Max: Fury Road, is up first — does it live up to the original films? Is Tom Hardy crazy enough to replace Mel Gibson? And who is Erin’s new geek crush? Then, Tomorrowland. Can Brad Bird keep up his winning streak? Will this finally give Disney a new live action franchise? And what would Walt think?

And what’s cool this week? Erin’s enjoyment of Matt Fraction and David Aja continues with Hawkeye Vol. 3: LA Woman, while Blake still can’t stop talking about the season finale of The Flash.

Episode 314: Free Comic Book Day 2015

Free Comic Book Day rolls around once again, and once again Blake and Kenny — joined for the first time by Erin — man a table at BSI Comics in Metairie. This time around the gang chats about recent events in the Flash and Gotham TV shows, give their thoughts on Divergence, All New All Different Avengers, Fight Club, Dark Circle and the other Free Comic Book Day titles, and then come back with a review of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

And what’s cool this week? Kenny is having a blast with LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, Erin is totally biased and chooses her husband’s new book Everything You Need to Know to Survive English Class but slightly less biased with a viewing of the classic Akira, and Blake is still reeling from Batman #40.

Blake is back! After a short discussion of his absence, and a sincere thank-you to those who helped raise his spirits during his hospital stay, we get into the first week of DC’s Convergence event. What happens when the heroes of DC’s pre-Flashpoint universe encounter those from other worlds? Wally West! A pregnant Lois Lane! Captain Carrot! There’s good stuff here, guys.

And what’s cool this week? Only two episodes in, Blake is totally won over by Marvel’s first Netflix series, Daredevil.

Episode 311: Wizard World New Orleans 2015

The convention tour has started again, and this week the Showcase gang walks the floor of Wizard World New Orleans 2015. Blake, Erin, Mike and Kenny talk about some of their finds, the challenge of collectible-diving, and ask the true burning question: are we reaching a saturation point for comic book conventions?

And what’s cool this week? Mike is making his way through Dexter and Batman: Zero Year, Kenny is a fan of Gotham, Erin reading Tale of the Body Thief and watching Breaking Bad, and Blake had fun with Ant-Man #1.

Episode 310: Six Years of Super Cinema

A few weeks ago, Warner Bros announced their slate of planned DC Comics movies through 2020. Not to be outdone, Marvel hit us with Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe a few days later. With Sony and Fox joining the fray with their licenses, there are over three dozen superhero movies in the works that we know of. This week, the Showcasers talk about the movies that have been announced — which ones are we excited for? Which ones have us a bit concerned? And which ones will surprise us if the cameras ever actually roll?

And what’s cool this week? Kenny is into the Constantine TV show, Erin is making her way through Anne Rice‘s Vampire Chronicles, and Blake gives props to Rocket Raccoon #5 and Tooth & Claw #1.

Episode 307: A Good Day For Geek TV

The new season of The Walking Dead starts tonight, and that means we’ll have five live-action, prime time TV shows based on comics at once, with several more on the way. This week, Blake and Erin talk about the beginnings of The Flash and Gotham, the new season of Agents of SHIELD, Peter Capaldi’s first season on Doctor Who, and take a brief detour into this year’s Phineas and Ferb Halloween Special.

And what’s cool this week? Erin is into Diana Rowland‘s My Life as a White Trash Zombie, and Blake recommends Rocket Raccoon #4 and Earth 2: World’s End #1.
