Episode 138: Age of Apocalypse
Because you demanded it! People have long asked us to do an episode delving into the classic X-Men storyline, The Age of Apocalypse, and we at the showcase aim to please! This week, Blake and Chase talk about the overall storyline, our favorites of the individual issues, and which elements from the Age of Apocalypse managed to transcend “alternate reality” status and become part of the regular X-Men lore. In the picks, Blake loved the first issue of Ender’s Game: Command School, while Chase gives us the graphic novel pick, Saga of the Swamp Thing Book One.

A few days late, thanks to Blake’s epic battle with the Computer Virus of Doom, but the Showcase is back! Creator spotlight week brings us to the works of J. Michael Straczynski! The guys discuss the early TV work on cartoons like Masters of the Universe and The Real Ghostbusters, his career-making turn on Babylon 5, and his journey through comics beginning with Rising Stars and Midnight Nation, through Spider-Man and Thor, and his current place reimagining the Red Circle. In the picks this week, Blake choose Justice Society of America #29, Chase brings us Dark Wolverine #76 (plus a retro pick!), and Mike goes with Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps #1. This week’s graphic novel pick: Hulk Visionaries: Peter David Volume 6.

This week, Blake and Chase weep like little girls over the final episode of Scrubs. Then, it’s time to get into the latest episode of Lost, Follow the Leader. (If you want to remain Lost-free, skip from 7:35 to 25:25 on your iPod!) After the Lost chat, the guys talk about the newly-greenlit Deadpool and Wolverine 2, give a few more thoughts about X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Blake explains how Amazon.com has broken his heart, just a little.

Episode 99: 2008-The Year in Review
2008 ends in just days, folks, so let’s go out with a Showcase blowout! Joined by back-up geeks Mike and Kenny, the boys announce the winners of the Best of 2008 awards, as voted on by you! Then, it’s a long talk about everything that happened in comics in 2008! The Dark Knight, the rise of Marvel Studios, Diamond refuses to distribute Hack/Slash, Archie goes back to ninth grade, and a heck of a lot more. This double-sized episode is the longest Showcase ever (we promise we won’t make a habit of it)! And instead of our usual picks of the week, stay tuned as our four guys pick their favorite comic books of the entire year! Next week will be the 100th Episode Spectacular! After chatting with the customers and making their picks of the week (including DC Universe #0 from BSI’s Jason, Wolverine: First Class #2 from Chase and Action Comics #864 from Blake), we talk with Doug Raymond and Monty from Welcome to Border City. Kathleen Ledet and Jen Suran tell us about their documentary film Weeding By Example, and Robby Musso — artist of multiple IDW TransFormers comics and Speed Racer: Chronicles of the Racer, sits down for a long-awaited interview. Oh — and because it’s us, we go out talking about Lost.
