Episode 303: Free Comic Book Day 2014

Free Comic Book Day has come and gone once again! Blake and Mike hang out for a while at BSI Comics talking about the available books, DC’s Showcase series, the return of Booster Gold, changes for Star Wars‘s expanded universe and May the Fourth events under the Disney Regime, and the sad passing of Efram Zimbalist, Jr. Then, Adam from the BSI Comics Podcast hangs out for a while to talk about the challenges of a weekly title, upcoming events for Marvel and DC, and one of his favorite Time Travel stories that we didn’t talk about back in Episode 272. Finally, Blake and Kenny meet up after FCBD to watch and review The Amazing Spider-Man 2. We talk in general, then give you guys a spoiler warning before we get into the nitty gritty.

And what’s cool this week? Blake had fun with the newest relaunch from Valiant Comics, Rai #1.

Didn’t get enough free stuff on FCBD? Blake’s short story Associated Pressure is free for your Amazon Kindle from now through May 6!

Episode 301: The Marvel Cinematic Universe-Now What?

Now that the guys have absorbed the cataclysmic events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, they’re ready to sit back and talk about how this will affect the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. How is this going to change Agents of SHIELD? What’s going to be different in the Marvel movies and TV shows from now on? Where do they go from here? The guys get super-spoilery on everything Marvel has done, make predictions about the films and TV shows already in development, talk about those projects still in the rumor stage, and then give their own suggestions for what properties they’d like to see join the MCU! Plus: what other studios are trying to duplicate the MCU’s success?

And what’s cool this week? Kenny has got his hands on the complete series of Reboot on DVD, while Blake’s ears have been immersed in the new album Music Inspired By the Life and Times of Scrooge.

At the Movies Episode 41: Captain America-The Winter Soldier

Blake is determined not to get into spoilers for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which actually kind of makes it a miracle that this podcast is more than 20 seconds long. But he gives you brief impressions and his recommendation for the movie.

And what’s cool this week? Nobody is more surprised than us that Blake is into Superior Spider-Man #30. Nobody at all should be surprised that Blake was into Rifftrax’s Total Riff Off on the National Geographic Channel.

One Shot #16: Geek Media Inventory

With the world around him determined to make everything into a competition, this week Blake refuses to play the game. Instead, he talks about the many, many comic book properties currently in development as TV shows and movies, and explains why — no matter what you feel about any project in particular — it’s all very, very good.

And what’s cool this week? The revelation in Justice League 3000 #4 has Blake downright intrigued.

At the Movies Episode 40: The LEGO Movie

And what’s cool this week? How the heck is nobody talking about what happened in Batman and Robin (or Batman and Two-Face, if you prefer) #28? Read it!

Episode 300: Wizard World New Orleans 2014

It’s the 300th episode of the Showcase, and Wizard World decided to celebrate by throwing a convention! Or maybe it’s a coincidence, who can tell? At any rate, the guys spend the weekend at the convention and chat about cosplay, the autograph-prolific antics of Matt Smith, the fact that Attack on Titan is apparently a thing now, and Blake faces the reality that the next time he goes to a convention he’ll be with his (GASP!) wife!

And what’s cool this week? Kenny doubles up on the card game Fate/Zero and the TV show Almost Human, and Blake’s into The Fox #4 and J.C. Hutchins’s The 33.

One Shot #15: Many Happy Returns

Wally West. Ted Kord. Peter Parker. In the past week, all three of them have been confirmed to be returning to the comic book shelves in the next few months. And as if that wasn’t enough, DC’s bringing back their old title Secret Origins as well. And Blake, for one, couldn’t be happier.

And what’s cool this week? Blake had fun with the first issue of Disney Kingdoms: Seekers of the Weird.

The Tolkiening of America continues this week as the Showcase guys take in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. And what’s cool this week? Jason has been watching Gypsy Sisters, Kenny got a new toy from Japan, and Blake is doing his annual re-read of The Autobiography of Santa Claus by Jeff Guinn.
