With the third Toy Story movie tearing up the screen, Blake and Kenny sit down this week to provide their commentary on the original 1995 Toy Story! So pop in your DVD and listen along as the boys discuss the franchise, the sequels, the comics, Pixar animation, animation in general, and a series of old Louisiana Natural Gas commercials. Who says this isn’t the Showcase Age of the Wild Tangents? In the picks, Kenny liked Heroic Age: Prince of Power #1 and Blake digs DC Universe: Legacies #2 with a bonus graphic novel pick: Little Adventures in Oz Vol. 2!
Episode 174: Greetings From Pittsburgh
Blake and Erin get on the microphone together for another of their epic visits together. The two of them discuss their adventures seeking out new comic book stores, how Blake was worried about defending the honor of the New Orleans Saints in the midst of Steeler nation, the glory of Bacon Night, and what they thought of the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. In the picks, Erin digs Power Girl: A New Beginning, and Blake was a fan of Young Allies #1.
Episode 173: Teasers and Talking
The guys get together for a news roundup this week. We spend time talking about the Captain America, Thor, Spider-Man and Green Lantern movies, The Walking Dead and Thundercats on TV, the new Teen Titans writer, Joe Quesada‘s promotion, the Invincible Iron Man Annual simultaneous release kerfuffle, the DC Universe Online release date, Vertigo characters returning to the DC Universe and more! In the picks, Mike hasn’t gotten any comics, so Blake and Kenny each double up — Adventure Comics #12, The Muppet Show #6, Superman/Batman Annual #4 and The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger-The Journey Begins #1!
At the Movies Episode 17: Prince of Persia-The Sands of Time
The newest Disney adventure film has hit theaters! With some downtime before they can milk the Pirates of the Carribbean property for another film, Disney branches out to the world of video games for their next adventure. Will Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time be the next Pirate-sized hit, or will it fizzle away like most video game flicks? Blake and Kenny are joined by Chase to give you their thoughts in this week’s At the Movies mini-episode!
Episode 172: Lost-The End
Your good buddy Chase returns for a very special chat with Blake and Kenny about the final episode of Lost! After six years of waiting, what questions did the final episode answer? What was left unresolved? Which episodes were most important and which ones were the most fun to watch? And is the Lost Experience really over? In the picks, Chase goes with Avengers #1, Kenny digs the return of Birds of Prey, and Blake is happy with Fantastic Four #579.
Episode 171: Siege, Sentry, and Lots of E-Mails
Kenny returns in this all-e-mail episode! After spending about a month on assorted special episodes, the boys sit down and read a slew of them all at once — comments on Blackest Night, Lost, The Hulk, thoughts on Siege and much more! And since Kenny hasn’t read comics in a while (and Daniel doesn’t read them at all), Blake and Mike each double up on their picks — this week, Legion of Super-Heroes #1, Superman/Batman #72, Atomic Robo #3 and Booster Gold #32!
Episode 170: TV Talk With Lost and Doctor Who
Responding to recent requests, this week the boys talk some TV. The guys talk about the entire season of Lost just before we head into the last two episodes, including which questions have to be answered, which ones probably won’t, and predictions for the end of one of their favorite shows. Then, Blake and Daniel delve into the current series of Doctor Who — the reign of Steven Moffat and Matt Smith, why they’re loving this series so much, and what they’re looking for in the second half. Fear not though, friends, you still get a comic fix. In the picks of the week, both of the Big Two’s “new directions” are addressed. Mike goes with Brightest Day #1 (which leads into a tangent about Titans: Villains For Hire #1) and Blake takes The Heroic Age: Prince of Power #1.
Episode 169: Free Comic Book Day 2010
It’s time once again for Geek Christmas, Free Comic Book Day! The Showcase boys, including Blake, Mike, and first-time panelist Daniel, sat in at BSI Comics in Metaire, where they talked to novelist Lewis Aleman, the world’s smallest Clone Trooper, and chatted about the beginning of War of the Supermen, the upcoming Iron Man 2, the recently-released Kick-Ass, and discussed just what they hope to see Free Comic Book Day become in the future. Thanks again to BSI Comics for being our host now for four years running!
At the Movies Episode 16: Iron Man 2
The boys didn’t have time to record a regular episode this week, friends, but you’re not going Showcase-less! Blake, Mike, and Daniel took in Iron Man 2 last night, and today we offer up our on-the-spot thoughts. How was the movie? How was the recast War Machine? How were the new characters? And does it hold up to the original? The guys also discuss the new direction for Tony Stark in the recent Invincible Iron Man #25, and Blake works in a pick of the week, Vertigo‘s I, Zombie #1. PLUS: Blake also gives you a bonus sneak preview of a new project that he’s going to launch this summer, courtesy of the Evercast.
