Put down the paper and fire up your computer — this week the Showcase boys are talking about some of their favorite Webcomics. Blake is a-flurry with suggestions, while Chase tries to figure out the appeal of the phenomenon… and the guys discuss what it takes to make a webcomic, and how to do it. Then in the picks, Chase continues to love Geoff Johns with Action Comics #866, and Blake bids a sad farewell to the comic book version of Justice League Unlimited.

Episode 74: Mark Millar and Wanted

Chase is a fan, Blake not so much, but the guys do their best to get to the heart of his work, discuss the Wanted comic book, and talk about their expectations for the movie. Episode 71: Showcase Tangent III

Chase had to sit out this week, so Mark Blicharz joins Blake for a chat about the big crossovers of the summer and Mark‘s feelings on The Hulk. In the e-mail section, the guys offer their Comic Convention Survival Tips and play “Casting Call” with a few characters, then head into the picks of the week, where Blake bids farewell to Shadowpact and Mark spreads the love for All Star Superman #11.

Episode 70: DC Comics Movie Blowout

How else could we follow up the longest Showcase podcast ever? With the second longest Showcase podcast ever! Last week, Chase and Blake took apart ever Marvel Comics movie to date, and this week, they do the same for DC. Everything from Superman and the Mole Men and the Adam West Batman to looks ahead at The Dark Knight and Watchmen is part of this giant-size episode. In the picks this week, Chase cheers for Franklin Richards: Not-So-Secret Invasion #1, while Blake is stunned at how Supergirl has become a must-read comic.

Episode 69: Marvel Movie Blowout

Prepare yourself for the biggest 2 in 1 Showcase ever! With no less than five comic book movies coming out this summer and more planned for the fall, the Showcase boys decided to do a two-part episode talking about all the Marvel and DC movies to date. What neither of them expected was that both parts would be gargantuan. In this double-sized episode, the guys break down all of the Marvel films by franchise, debate the merits, and give their own rating of each and every one — and the discussion lasts longer than some of the movies! In this week’s picks, Blake loves the new Guardians of the Galaxy, while the conclusion of “Last Son of Krypton” makes Action Comics Annual Chase’s choice.

Kathleen Ledet and Jen Suran tell us about their documentary film Weeding By Example, and Robby Musso — artist of multiple IDW TransFormers comics and Speed Racer: Chronicles of the Racer, sits down for a long-awaited interview. It’s spring, the time a young man’s fancy turns to thoughts of love — and a friend of the Showcase is walking down the aisle this weekend! Chase and Blake prepare for the Bachelor Party by talking about their favorite comic book wedding stories, which superheroes work married and which ones don’t, and discuss love, families and everything that comes with taking the big plunge. In the picks, Blake digs Jeff Smith‘s RASL and Chase says farewell to Cable and Deadpool.

The guys talk about their favorite stories with the emerald archer, the different versions of the character, and how his transformation began the transformation of the entire DC Universe. In the picks this week, Chase loves the cover to Black Panther #34, while Blake tells us how Action Comics #862 is one comic that lives up to its name.

This week, as per your requests, the guys dive into Western Comics! Why does Blake love them? Why doesn’t Chase? We touch upon great western heroes from Jonah Hex to Bat Lash to The Lone Ranger to Zorro to less orthodox western yarns like Preacher, The Ballad of Sleeping Beauty, The Kents and The Dark Tower. (And if you want our thoughts on the new Zorro comic, check our our mini-Episode 58.5.) After a feedback-sparked debate about the quality of children’s comics, the guys get to this week’s picks.
